“It’s been an interesting journey, these past 30 years, for me especially, starting out in the industry straight from school, following my father’s footsteps into the business. We’ve certainly seen a lot of changes in government, building and global economics.  Through it all, we’ve stuck to our core ethos and made smart choices for the long-term, and this has seen us succeed through the highs and the lows of this temperamental construction industry.”
– Rod MacLeod, Managing Director

THE AHC TEAM

Ian MacLeod

Ian MacLeod

FOUNDER | CHAIRMAN

With a career spanning 40+ years in the construction industry, Ian brings vast knowledge and experience to the board.

From his early days as a bricklayer, when Ian trained both at TAFE and on the job, his entrepreneurial skills and managerial prowess soon became apparent. He put together a small group of investors to form a syndicate development group to undertake numerous commercial and industrial building projects in Southport and three-story residential properties.

Grander opportunities presented themselves, and Ian joined the larger group ‘Queensland Syndicate Developments’. There, as Project Manager, he oversaw the construction of Boulevard Towers and Boulevard North in Broadbeach, Spindrift and Foreshore on the ocean-front in Mermaid Beach, and many other smaller projects.

In 1983 Ian established AHC Limited, which was floated on the ASX in 1988. AHC went on to build entire housing estates, service industry buildings and land subdivision for industrial purposes. AHC is renowned for developing quality shopping centres, including those at Worongary, Gympie and Rockhampton, a hotel and shopping complex in Helensvale and service stations at Helensvale, Gympie, Worongary and Rockhampton.

During this progressive and exciting period, Ian achieved a Masters of Business Administration at Griffith University.

By 2013 after the Company completed a buy back of shares and the reduced number of shareholders, a decision was made to delist the company from the Australian Stock Exchange and subsequently to establish the Low Volume Market.

Ian is excited about the future of AHC as we move forward into the lifestyle housing arena. We are proud to have Ian continue as our Chairman, with his wealth of expertise.

Passionate about the industry after all these years, Ian still loves the Gold Coast and is a proud, remarkable Australian. He was the recipient of an active service medal for his duties in the Royal Australian Navy. He was the Chief Engineer on HMAS Bombard, patrolling the east coast of Australia,  served on HMAS Melbourne and HMAS Sydney taking Troops to Vietnam, and spent an extended tour on the East China Sea Exercises in conjunction with the USA Military in the region.
